More Salida Fun

Our weekend in Salida continued with a parade and a visit from a great friend. Here we are enjoying the parade on Saturday morning.

This parade was quite different from the Elizabeth Stampede parade. We saw a circus school, solar companies, Shriners in their little cars, and Smokey the Bear.

Then back to the carnival for more rides.

I forgot a couple of videos that should have gone in the last post.
Lucy dancing in her stroller while Elliott went on rides.

Lucy's new trick! She claps now. This was 6/13/14.

We've known Alice since our days in the Antarctic program (Jesse and Alice go back over 15 years!). Alice, Eric, and their daughter Lila live in Durango now. We don't get to see them nearly as much as we would like to. Eric was at sea but Alice and Lila made the drive over to see us for the weekend. Lila is just a couple of months younger than Elliott. They had a blast playing together. This was a pre-nap stroller ride back home from the carnival. It became an eventful stroller ride when we were attacked by a dust storm in the middle of the street.

Toddler hugs are the best!!

We had a game of Simon Says while waiting for keys to arrive.

I love watching Lucy sleep. Look at those legs!

Enjoying adult catch up time with Alice while all three kids napped (victory!). This picture was actually "Hi, Jenny White!"

We went back to the carnival after nap and hit up the big slide.

Big smiles from Elliott!

Lila was stone faced on the slide . . .

But all smiles at the bottom.

My boys in their new matching hoodies.

We went down to the river to watch the hooligan race. This is where any crazy fools build a "boat" out of cardboard, duct tape, buckets, etc. and attempt to make it through the rapids. To make it even more interesting, the winner is the second place boat. So, you have to be good but not win. It was quite the spectacle. With the rain and big crowds, I didn't take any pictures of the rafts but did get this cute one of Elliott and me.

The sun came out after the rain and we went to the playground for a while to ride the turtle.

Carnivals make for dirty children! At the end of the day, everyone was covered in grit and grime. Baths were necessary! And look at this cuteness!

What do you think we did on Sunday? If you guessed that we went back to the carnival, you would be correct!

Lila was just as fond of the airplanes.

The kids were mesmerized by a magician promoting his afternoon shows. If money really did appear from behind Elliott's ears, we would be rolling in dough!

While the big kids napped and Lucy resisted her nap, she and I took a stroll around town. We wandered into a cute boutique and I had to take a picture of these shoes on her. Gold, sparkly Toms!! She was not a fan but I love them! I see these in her future when she's a bit bigger.

We had a few tickets left to use so we went . . . back to the airplanes!

Elliott had fun playing in the ice that one of the food trucks dumped out.

Grandpa Nick has a great park and playground across the street from his house. During our stay, Elliott decided that this slide was most fun when going down head first. He is quite a bit bigger than he was during our trip last year!

Monkey boy on the rock wall.

Lucy really, really wanted to eat the mulch.

Grandpa let Elliott try on this real firefighter helmet.

Grandpa and Lucy before we headed out.

Our driver on the way home. She even has her feet on the wheel!
